Tour Details

We depart from Carhuaz at 5:30 a.m. and continue to Ulta Pampa, where we begin the ascent along a well-marked trail toward Huallcacocha Lake at 4,355 m.a.s.l.

The trail passes through a beautiful forest of native queñual trees. A series of switchbacks leads us to the dam, built in the 1980s to regulate the lake’s waters. We then continue along the southern ridge of the lake, following a trail through the vegetation while seeking out the best viewpoints.

From the lake, we enjoy impressive views of the snow-capped peaks of Chopicalqui at 6,350 m.a.s.l. and Huascarán at 6,768 m.a.s.l., including their spectacular south faces. To the east lies the immense Cancaracá Glacier at 5,500 m.a.s.l., as well as the strikingly steep peak of Ulta at 5,875 m.a.s.l.

After lunch, we return to Ulta along the same trail.
