This spectacular high-altitude trek crosses one of the most remote and scenic areas of the Cordillera Blanca. Starting from the Ulta Valley, the route ascends through high Andean landscapes to Huallcacocha Lagoon (4,300 m) before reaching the Chequiaraju Pass (5,080 m), one of the highest points of the trek.
Along the way, trekkers enjoy breathtaking views of some of the Cordillera Blanca’s most impressive peaks, including Huascarán, Chopicalqui, Hualcán, and the rugged Nevado Ulta. The route combines pristine glacial landscapes, turquoise lagoons, ancient Polylepis forests, and dramatic mountain scenery, offering a true high-altitude wilderness experience.
Due to its altitude and remote character, this trek is recommended for experienced hikers with good acclimatization. It is an excellent alternative for those seeking adventure away from the more crowded trails of the Cordillera Blanca.

Tour Details
From Ulta Pampa, we ascend along a well-marked trail toward Huallcacocha Lake at 4,300 m.a.s.l. The route passes through another beautiful forest of native queñual trees. We then continue along the southern ridge of the lake, following a trail through the vegetation.
Keeping the eastern ridge of Chequiaraju as our reference point, we gradually make our way toward its moraine. A steep section of granite rock leads us to Chequiaraju Pass at 5,100 m.a.s.l.
From the pass, we enjoy spectacular views of Hualcán at 6,120 m.a.s.l. and its impressive north face, as well as the Auquiscocha Lakes. We can also admire the southern faces of Huascarán and Chopicalqui. However, the most striking peak is undoubtedly Ulta at 5,800 m.a.s.l., one of the steepest mountains in the Cordillera Blanca.
We descend along the moraine toward Auquiscocha Lake. Continuing along the trail, we pass the spectacular Auquiscocha waterfalls before reaching Catay Pampa at 3,500 m.a.s.l., the end of our trek.

- Trekking briefing and introduction. One additional helmet and harness.
- Mountain guide Quique Apolinario, shared group equipment, and rope.
- Private transportation to Ulta Valley: Departure at 3:00 a.m., with private return transportation from Catay Valley at approximately 4:00–6:00 p.m.
