Trek to Perú Refuge + Laguna 69
The Peru Refuge & Laguna 69 Trek offers a new way to experience a mountain adventure with the comfort of the Andean Refuges. It is an activity that can be done year-round, even during the rainy season, as overnight stays are under a solid roof with hot meals and drinks, as well as access to showers and bathrooms.
The refuge is located in the heart of the main 6,000-meter mountain circle, surrounded by giants like Huascarán, Chopicalqui, the Huandoys, and the vertical walls of Chacraraju. Nearby, Mount Pisco takes center stage, attracting climbers from around the world each year.

Travel plan
Around 7:30 a.m., we begin the ascent toward the Llanganuco Valley in private transport. We briefly descend through Yungay, passing the remains of the old town that was destroyed by the 1970 avalanche. After approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, we arrive at Cebollapampa (3,900 m), located just 10 minutes by vehicle from Lake Orconcocha.
We start our hike, crossing the left bank of the river and heading toward Mount Pisco. The trail becomes a gradual zigzagging ascent until we reach Perú Refuge. Upon arrival, we are welcomed with a hot tea and then settle into our rooms.
We depart early after breakfast and cross the moraine of the Huandoy and Pisco glaciers, where we can observe a small newly forming lagoon. With panoramic views of Chopicalqui and Huascarán always in sight, we continue our ascent toward the ridge of Tres Cóndores Pass (4,900 m). From the top, we enjoy an impressive view of the vertical face of Chacraraju (6,112 m), featuring a 1,200-meter wall.
We then descend to the stunning turquoise waters of Lake 69. After a break, we return to Cebollapampa via the classic route, where our transport awaits. Final return to Carhuaz.
