Itinerary
We take the bus to Vicos and begin our ascent to Base Camp, passing through a dense eucalyptus forest. We then follow a well-established trail along the western slope, gradually gaining elevation. As we climb, the valley opens up, offering views of the cultivated fields around the village of Vicos.
Base Camp is located beside Laguna Legiacocha at 4,600 m.a.s.l.
We ascend to Camp I “Copa,” passing through the “Canaleta,” where occasional rockfall may occur. We reach the southern edge of the glacier, where we establish camp. The location offers extensive panoramic views.
The route follows the vast glacier, navigating around deep crevasses with relatively gentle slopes. The final 50 meters to the summit are the most challenging section. We descend first to Camp I and then continue down to Base Camp.
