The Ishinca Valley, with its three impressive mountains, offers climbers a wide range of ascent and trekking possibilities. The base camp is reached from Pashpa (3,600 m) via a scenic and gradual trail. Ascents can be made from the Ishinca Refuge (4,350 m) in a single day, except for Tocllaraju and Ranrapalca, which require higher camps.
Urus (5,490 m) is a perfect mountain for acclimatization. Its gentle glacier climbing slopes provide an accessible route to the summit. With an early start, climbers can complete the ascent and return to enjoy lunch at Base Camp.

Itinerary
We travel by bus to the village of Pashpa at 3,500 m.a.s.l., where we begin the trek along a scenic trail with views of Copa and Huascarán to the north. The route continues through a forest of queñual trees, a native species characteristic of the Cordillera Blanca, before entering the deep and gradually ascending Ishinca Valley.
As we progress, we catch sight of the impressive Ishinca Towers. After crossing open grassland, we reach Refugio Ishinca at 4,350 m.a.s.l., surrounded by a spectacular ring of mountains.
From the refuge, we cross the river and follow a zigzagging trail that climbs toward a plateau. The gradient becomes gentler as we approach the final section leading to Laguna Ishinca.
We then reach the northern glacier and continue toward a small col, where there may be a few crevasses. Approximately 100 meters below the summit, the route becomes steeper, with slopes of around 45 degrees. From the summit, enjoy spectacular panoramic views.
We descend via the southwest glacier, alongside Ranrapalaca, before continuing down to the refuge.
We approach the slopes of Urus East, where the route begins among rocky boulders. The rugged trail continues through a series of short switchbacks, leading to a rocky outcrop.
From there, the gradient becomes gentler as we ascend the glacier over moderate slopes. The final section consists of a short stretch of snow leading to the summit.
- Day 1: Marcará at 2,750 m.a.s.l. – Bus transfer to Pashpa at 3,500 m.a.s.l. – Trek to Refugio Ishinca at 4,350 m.a.s.l.
- Day 2: Ascent from Refugio Ishinca at 4,350 m.a.s.l. to Ishinca Summit at 5,530 m.a.s.l.
- Day 3: Ascent from Refugio Ishinca at 4,350 m.a.s.l. to Urus Summit at 5,490 m.a.s.l.
- Day 4: Rest Day.
- Day 5: Ascent from Refugio Ishinca at 4,350 m.a.s.l. to Tocllaraju Moraine Camp at 5,100 m.a.s.l.
- Day 6: Ascent from Moraine Camp to Tocllaraju Summit at 6,034 m.a.s.l. – Return to Refugio Ishinca.
- Day 7: Return Trek from Refugio Ishinca to Pashpa at 3,500 m.a.s.l. – Bus transfer to Marcará.
- Round-trip transfer from Huaraz to Pashpa.
