This famous mountain, located in the Llanganuco Valley, was first climbed by a Franco-Belgian team, George Kogan and Nicole Leininger, who named the previously unclimbed peak after Peru’s national drink, “Pisco,” to celebrate their successful summit ascent and France’s National Day on July 14th.
Pisco is an ideal peak for both beginner climbers and experienced mountaineers. Surrounded by a spectacular 360° panorama featuring one of the most renowned concentrations of 6,000-meter peaks in the Cordillera Blanca, it offers an unforgettable alpine experience. The Santa Cruz–Llanganuco trek is highly recommended as an acclimatization route before the climb.

Itinerary
Bus transfer from Marcará, passing through Carhuaz, the historic town buried by the landslide triggered by the 1970 earthquake. We continue up the Llanganuco Valley, home to its stunning turquoise-colored lakes. After the second lake, Orconcocha, we continue for approximately 3 km to Cebollapampa, where we begin the trek.
From the refuge, the route continues along a stepped ascent toward a moraine ridge, then proceeds over chaotic boulders in the direction of Huandoy. Passing along the left side of the small lake at the foot of Pisco, we reach a moraine depression that marks Moraine Camp at 4,900 m.a.s.l.
The ascent continues to the right along a moraine ridge, following stone cairns as reference points. Upon reaching granite slabs, we arrive at the beginning of the glacier. We then cross the glacier toward the Huandoy–Pisco Col at 5,300 m.a.s.l.
From there, we head right toward the summit along the southwest ridge, with moderate slopes of 30–45 degrees and some crevasses. From the summit, enjoy a spectacular 360-degree panoramic view.
Return to the refuge.
Optional visit to Laguna 69. From the refuge, we follow a moraine trail toward Chacraraju, reaching Paso Tres Cóndores at 4,900 m.a.s.l. The pass offers spectacular views of Chacraraju. We then descend to Laguna 69 at 4,600 m.a.s.l.
From Laguna 69, we continue our descent to Cebollapampa, where we take the bus back to Marcará.
